Leslie is the chairman of the Personal Growth and Services Committee of the Beta Rho Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. Each year the chapter selects a community project to support. This year they packed twenty-three purses and/or tote bags with personal items for women who are displaced due to domestic violence. The WRC distributes the bags as needed.
PACKED PURSES FOR WOMEN’S RESOURCE CENTER
Could you imagine having to leave your home suddenly with only the clothes on your back? No, it isn’t due to a flood or a fire. Many women must do this each day to save themselves and their children from domestic violence. The Beta Rho Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International (DKG) recently donated purses or tote bags filled with personal items such as deodorant, shampoo, lotions, nail files, refillable water bottles, note pads, pens, masks, wipes, protein bars and snacks to Women’s and Victim’s Resource Centers in Susquehanna and Lackawanna Counties to give to any victims who go to the centers. Through the generosity of its members, the chapter collected over twenty-three purses or totes. The directors of the centers were so appreciative to receive the donations and will pass them on. In the past, the chapter has also packed children’s backpacks and baskets of cleaning supplies to donate to the centers. Leslie Gossage, Personal Growth and Services chairman of the Beta Rho Chapter, organized the purse/tote bag project. Because the chapter is meeting virtually, Leslie chose four drop off locations for members’ donations and then she collected them at Mountain View Elementary School where she teaches. DKG is an international Society of women educators whose mission is to promote personal and professional growth of women educators and excellence in education. Beta Rho Chapter members represent Adams, Bradford, Lackawanna, Pike, Susquehanna, and Wyoming Counties
