Generous Donation to Summer Lunch Box Program
The Beta Rho Chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International (DKG), a society of women educators, once again collected and donated pasta and spaghetti sauce to the Summer Lunch Box (SLB) Program in its new permanent location that SLB now has. Paula Smith, the president of SLB, reported that the building in Kingsley (formerly owned by the Masters family) will soon have shelving and a commercial refrigerator. Paula said they raised a lot of money to do this so that they won't have to set up and take down donation sites at churches for this long-time program. Pictured left to right are Leslie Gossage, chair of the committee which organizes the donation and committee member Teresa Cavalier, with the many donated jars of sauce and boxes of pasta. The donations were collected at the recent Tri-Chapter meeting at The Inn of the Abingtons and dropped off by committee chairman Leslie Gossage.
The total collected was 98.23 pounds of pasta and 34.54 24-ounce jars of sauce. This is an estimated amount to serve approximately 785.85 adult servings of pasta and 672.71 adult servings of sauce. The chapter has generously provided support of this worthwhile program for many years. The program provides five bi-weekly food distributions of staple items for meal preparations to families during the months of June, July, and August. In addition to the pasta and sauce, they also distribute staple items and some perishables including meat and whole milk. Because there are no paid administrators in this grass roots efforts, 100% of the donations received goes right back into the program.
